When comparing something new to a well-established entity, it is helpful to begin by looking at the one we know best. In the case of the upstart Skiff vs. the Microsoft Corporation we now see, the answer is obvious. I find this inquest a question of ethics, security, and trust; none of which I harbor for anything Microsoft. These days, corporations have earned the horrible reputation they have crafted. We, the end users are therefore willing to try anything simply to get as far away as we possibly can from any corporate interests. Trust must be justified.
Skiff announces itself as Privacy first end-to-end encrypted email! I like that. It tells me Skiff will provide what I am looking for; confidentiality and reliance. It answers my question, does privacy even exist in any available email application? Skiff uses email tracking which monitors the destination of your emails. This confirms the sent email is read by the intended recipient. Encryption equals trust and trust is what we need.
Skiff offers complete encryption for the email body and also for the composition title which is something unheard of until Skiff arrived on the scene. When Benjamin Franklin was appointed the nation's first Postmaster General, he intended the mail system to be confidential and reliable, and supported by trust and consistency. The term, "The Mail Must Go Through," has held these views to be true and indeed, the system has endured.
Privacy is a fundamental right and no matter how the mail was carried, this principle has been the foundation. The challenge in our digital world is to protect our data from malicious and regressive forces and to empower users to maintain control over their personal information. Today's Skiff brings us a complete set of features that beat those tired and worn-out systems once our only choice. Both external and internal cooperation made this our new reality that looks at Google and Microsoft lurking in the shadows.
